Usually when you think of pirates, the first thing to pop up is Pirates of the Caribbean. The famous Johnny Depp. People usually see pirates as mean, smelly, cruel men. Just as Captain Hook in Peter pan and many more. Johnny Depp playing as Jack sorrow is seen as a funny, weird and everything but mean. Even if majority of the pirates are labeled as mean and such, there is many who wished to be a pirate growing up.
People like the author of Buccaneers and pirates, Frank R. Stockton; he wished on being a pirate growing. He stated how he only wanted to do so because he wanted the independence of life in general. Ignoring the fact that pirates are criminals and always have someone coming for them. Knowing I am going to have someone always trying to kill me and even my own men can't block it forever is the scary part.
Mr. Stockton wanted to take from the rich and giving to the poor, doesn't everyone? Till the gold gets in their head and only want it for themselves. That's off topic though. Disney made pirates seem like they all had a heart at the end of the movie or even during. They made it seem as it was the life any would want and get everything easy. I doubt if Disney hosted them as how they really were in real life that children would wish to be a pirate growing up.
Children love being the hero in the story like Buzz light, Spider-man, batman and such, it's rare to find a child actually wanted to be the villain whom is hated by everyone. Jack sorrow is also another specific reason why children would want to be a pirate if in his moves, it's more funny and cool than what they really intended to aim at.

There is so many off things about pirates that we did not really pay attention to in the beginning because we simply see it as fiction and just for entertainment. We don't see the pirates in the Caribbean as criminals even though we see them steal, kill, as well as  harm others. "We never met pirates yet we know exactly what they look like", Cordingly, David. Under the Black Flag. New York: The Random house publishing group, 1996. Yet in every movie, we all dress them the exact same. Another thing is majority of the pirates in movies are all super mean to others or simply cruel.
Real pirates did not need big "ships" like in the pirates of the Caribbean because the last thing they wanted was to be identified and harder to escape from. Real pirates are elected by their pirates crew which I highly believe that in pirates of the Caribbean, they do not. As stated online on Greek dad, "pirates only fought as hard as they had to", they always tried to avoid fights and just get their prize. If Jack from the Caribbean was actually a captain. his own crew would dump him out because he fought with every chance he could. The whole "arrr" is not what pirates actually would say, just something directors began. Women are too weak to be pirates in a realistic form, it is rare to find a female pirate.
Men are more risk takers but they know they won't last for long because of what they put themselves into. So considering because honest, why would a female do that? The black flag with the skull and bones were something that real pirates did indeed use. Like in the Caribbean, pirates did not walk the plank. There is not actual evidence if so.
